- Crowd Control and Egress – Large stationary crowds can turn dangerous when exits are blocked. Ensure clear signage, maintain open pathways, and consider real-time video or drone monitoring to detect bottlenecks.
- Access Screening and Perimeter Threats – Ensure there are solid access control procedures in place at entry with trained bag checkers, and consider deployment of portable metal detectors. Around the perimeter, watch for unattended bags, patrol parking lots, and keep a watchful eye for potential active shooters and/or weapons.
- Emergency Response – Ensure all school staff and security teams are familiar with evacuation routes and emergency response communication protocols. Contact and coordinate with local law enforcement, hospitals, and emergency response teams. Training and running drills ahead of events can help ensure emergency response becomes second nature.
